Location: Ames, Iowa | I don't get out much but got both on my Leech trip. First was a 27" in the bulrushes, then a nice 41" at sunset on a windswept rock bar in 6 feet of water on an orange/orange spinnerbait. The thing that I'm positive that lead to both was using the boat control skills I've learned through my mistakes. The more mistakes I make in this game, the more I realize how important boat control is in the Presentation part of the FLP formula. I set out on this trip to constatntly keep myself aware of presentation with my boat (wind, speed, position), and it paid off. I will try to post pics when I figure out how to do so at school next week. Thanks Muskiefirst and thanks also to Jim Murphy for the encouragement.
All the best,
Don |

Location: Northern Wisconsin | hey if one person knows about the lack of boat control its me. in the past our minn kota stuff has been
flakey: either motor, battery, or charger. it was all a year or two old and it never worked good
on the area lakes. before we go we charge th battery and attach everything. we get up there and try
to use it and it is barely moving us even on full power. we decide not to worry about it and just fish.
we had to change our plans and just try to set up good drifts and go with the flow. i didnt work to well.
i cant count how many times were drifting a weed bar and we come through the middle of it and
its 2 feet all around casting distance and thats not where the fish were. we drift and it blows us into shore
or into 20 feet of water. we had absolutly not boat control besides the drift or with the 25 hp tiller.
we got out with the guide half way through the trip and see how important boat control is. we ended up
with 3 small fish in a week. not as good as i was expecting and was kind of dissapointed. if we would have had boat control and
been able to cast along the outside of the whole weed or rock bar or shore i think we would have caght more fish.
bty. we found out the minn kota battery charger was the problem. |
