Do very many of you guys land by hand with no net or cradle. I recently fished with a very experianced musky fisherman who has given up on nets and cradles completely. We released lots of fish over 2 weeks and had no problems at all. it seemed to be very easy on the fish.

I used to do it but saw too many pics of good people w/ hooks in their hands. Even w/ good insurance, a good net is far cheaper than a trip to the emergency room.

I also feel that you don't have to fight a fish as long to land them w/ a quality net. Shorter fights are better for the fish.

You have to fight the fish to exhaustion to hand land and that's not a good thing this summer. Not to mention the fish is got a lure in it's mouth, been hooked to a fish twice and that is not fun.

I water release a lot of fish and find it preferrable to the net most of the time. I have had many more bad net experiences than problems hand landing. Barbless hooks facilitate easy release, and if you are using lighter baits, I recommend them.

if hand landing be sure of the following: where is nearest medical facility; do they have knipex or do I bring my own; if bringing my own do I get a discount on service? otherwise have fun
