I'm looking to buy a spinning reel and rod for creatures and heavier jigs. I checked out a bunch of different reels at Gander Mtn. including Shimano Stella, but the Quantum Energy PTI 30 really seemed like a winner:

Features TiMAG II bail system Performance-tuned ceramic drag system Titanium vacuum-deposition, scratch-resistant coating Machined aluminum power handle ThinLine aluminum body and sidecover 10 PT bearing drive system Continuous Anti-Reverse II clutch system Quantum Hot Sauce lubrication Spare aluminum spool Gear Ratio: 5.17:1 E20PTi Line Capacity: 140-yds of 6-lb test E30PTi Line Capacity: 160-yds of 8-lb test

Also am thinking about the 7'6" All Star Big Game spinning rod

I'm want to fill the reel with a 30-50# superbraid

any thoughts?

Sounds like the right setup. a It sounds a bit heavier than what I use, but should be a great outfit.

I use a couple of the Penn spinning models and have been very happy with the way they spool up superbraids. If you're fishin next weekend and want a netman, please let me know, m

make sure the box has a red dot since there was a recall last year since Quantum had a problem with their anti-reverse. The red dot is on the boxes of fixed Quantum products.

I went with the Daiwa Capricorn 3500 with the Air Bail. Casts real far and the drag is unbelievable. Plus the drag is waterproof unlike many other reels such as the Stradic. Waterproof drag is essential on rainy days or on stained water.
