Subject: Calcutta- which size?

I'm think of picking up a Calcutta te. I'm just wondering whether is should be the 400 or 700.. I'm want to have a confortable yardage of line spooled on this reel, probably 40lb-60lb or so of PowerPro or eqivalent. I don't want to be caught have a 400+ dollar reel that can't hold enogh line, especially since I may get into trolling. I guess I'm asking is the 400 large enough to fishing, if need be, with heavy, heavy line?

The 400 should do fine, The size of the new superlines are small and you will be able to get plenty of line on it. Be sure to use a mono backing to prevent it from slipping.

Jason, i have used, do use, and now have a 700TE on the way in the mail for musky fishing.
the normal 700's have a push button on the reel (like most abu's) for the spool release. however, the 700TE has a little lever for the the spool release. it's really like a switch. 700TE great for casting and trolling. it has the big power handle on it so it's easy to crank in those big trolling baits. i have fished the 400TE. it's a nice nice reel too. just about perfect for casting. but if you want to troll and cast w/ it, the 700TE might have more to offer you. good luck w/ whatever you decide.
FYI, if you are looking at getting a 400TE, check out the 400TE Conquest. it's a upgrade for the normal TE. They dont make a 700TE Conquest....yet.

Hey thanks alot for your suggestion. In fact I've been looking at the conquests since I first posted this. Also the te dc. But there is no way I'm going to spend 500 bucks on 200 size reel, and try spool it with 50blb PP. Just sounds like a disaster... I even call Shimano and they said they have no plans to relaese a 400+ te dc as of yet. I can't wait for it so the Conquest it is! You know I had my eyes set on the 700, but i just got to thinking that I cast more, I better get something a little smaller and lighter like the 400. Thanks again tomcat..
