Some family just aquired 2 lake houses on lake Tomahawk, hows the muskie fishing there, or on nearby lakes? Ive never fished in that area, usually stick to Vilas, or sourthern wisconsin.

Land of the giants! Ray Kennedy caught a 54.75", 50 lb fish out of Lake Tomahawk in 1956. You know, could be another one...

Lake Tomahawk is a big deep clear body of water and part of the Minocqua chain and has giant Muskies in it.
I only fished it once fished some great looking spots then we got sucked into Eagle bay spent too much time there and then it was off to Big Sandy one of the most famous spots in the North Woods only to get chased off the weather. Never went back. Lots of lakes around the town of Tomahawk and kind of off the beaten path (for Wisconsin) the Chain its self is a zoo.

Like Chuckski said it's deep and clear. Decent numbers in that chain and big fish too.
I like fishing it, however I only go there after Labor Day on weekdays. Lots of recreational traffic.

On the west end, a few minutes up the thoroughfare will get you into Lake Minocqua, keep going then you hit Lake Kawaguesaga. All hold fish. Lake Tom is much larger so you can hide away from the rec traffic sometimes; the other two lakes, no way. Even night fishing is risky out there with all the bar/restaurants on water. Boats are ripping around all hours of the night.
