Hello to all my fellow essox addicts and muskie cult members my name is Eric and myself and my wife and kids will be heading up to beautiful Ontario in mid July to fish crow. This will be the first time I have fished crow lake the only other lake I have fished in Canada was Eagle back in 2012 when I was single and had no kids lol. Now that I have a family, I carry the crumb snatchers (7,10,16) and lovely chatterbox along for the adventures, which I don't mind at all because it is truly a blessing to have kids and family who share the same interests as you as well as a wife who does. Anyways, as I mentioned we are headed to Crow in mid July staying at muskie bay and I know there have been a few older threads on here about crow but I figure I would reach out and see if anyone could assist me in any current advice that could possibly increase my chances of landing the mysterious and elusive blonde preferably 57" slimy toothy fish of my angler dreams, cause I like many of you I'm sure still have those reoccurring night terrors of the monsters that followed and stalked our baits or simply came off... I have fished muskie since 2007 and I have caught many and fished many lakes in Illinois Wisconsin Michigan and Minnesota. However I know the clear Canadian shield trout lakes can be either very humbling or very rewarding either way, just to be in Canada coming from the Chicago area and getting out of here is it's own slice of heaven. Coming back when the trip is over takes about 2 months to snap out of that depression. Anyways! I appreciate you all for any help you can throw at me and I look forward to your replies!
Eric S.

Hi Eric, I've never been to Crow be as a teenager staying in Wisconsin at my grandparents they had a collage they rented and a family who rented the cottage shared stories of staying on Crow. The story I remember is on a calm day you can look down in the ultra clear water and see 20 pound Pike sitting on the bottom in 20+ feet of water. There was a person from our old Muskie club who took a 36 pounder out of Crow. I've talked to some guy's from the Twin Cities who go in the fall and all they do is troll. Read Dickp's Muskies On The Shield book and there's a chapter "Trout water" This book has been reissued this spring and I think you can get it at Thorne Bothers.

That's awesome and thank you for your reply. We plan to target smallies pike lake trout walleye but me and the wife's ultimate would be to get a muskie so we bring bass and muskie rods. I've learned when I go on muskie trips to bring my bass rods and lures with as well because when you start to feel discouraged or lose hope you throw some bass stuff slam a few fish and you get that confidence back. We used to go on trips with just muskie stuff and go home skunked and sore and at my age and for the few thousand dollars it costs to fish Canada 'd rather catch something rather than nothing. I will check out dicks book. There's actually a video on YouTube I came across of dick fishing the shields and explaining things. Thanks again.

I also have Dick's DVD and a BAD case of muskie fever, however Smallmouth's?, Walleye's?, and Lake Trout?, bring your Rapala's, smaller Mepp's, and jig's and twistertails along with some Dipsy Divers to get down to the Lake Trout. Bring some muskie stuff too. There was a story in In-fishermen around 1993 where a guy would to Lake Of The Woods every year and catch Muskies, Walleye's, Bass, and Pike all on Bass sized spinnerbaits, they even joked that he had one Muskie lure. You and your family will have the time of your life catching everything under the sun. After all there is a reason they call it "God's Country". Have a great time!

Amen to that! Just being in sunset Country is a slice of heaven. I bought some tubes from droptine tackle Thatcher over at droptine is an awesome dude so is Glenn from 54 or bust on YouTube great channel BTW he connected me to Thatcher and also Jeff from the YouTube channel 'lunkers with lehr' is a great dude and has an awesome channel with vids on crow and has given me some advice on the lake as well. I grabbed some tubes and some blade baits spoons some drop shots and some gulp alive 3" minnows some jigs and swim baits. Shhh don't tell my wife haha she's just learning that fishing is an expensive hobby. She says "more lures!" every time ups or usps or Amazon musky shop comes haha
Now if for some horrible outcome we all get skunked then like they say it's easier to beg for forgiveness then to ask permission...
