Location: Athens, Ohio | I still have my dad's Lowrance portable 'spinner' unit; no idea if it still works or really how to read it well. Still have grandpa's two Heddon Pal's (with dacron line) as part of a display, along with dad's old Record spinning reel. Whole lot different stuff from the HDS 10 and ABU 6500's in my boat now. m

Posts: 1435 Location: Brighton CO. | Folks had one rod for everything, Muskie to panfish. My dad had a rod that got last in a move but it was a old True Temper Bass type rod with a bait cast reel without a drag and think black line. For Pike and Muskie they throw Johnson's Silver Minnows or a off brand Spoon, River runts, Paw Paw Frog, small Pikie Minnow. And to fish for panfish they would just tie on a piece of Cat Gut on the end of the think line and hook. They caught everything from panfish to Muskies over 30 pounds on this rig. The rod got lost in a move years ago and not sure what it was made of but my dad could take the rod tip and bend it and touch the bottom handle on the rod and it was guarenteed not to break. As a Baby Boomer I went from 5' 6" glass rod to 8-9 footers and from Dacron (27-30 pound test) to today Super Brad. and the lures Started out with Mepps and now I can build anything I want now. Intil the late 80's Cisco Kids and Pikies were the only choice. Now we can get down deep in the fall without the use Suckers.

Posts: 1763 | My first memory of fishing is trolling with dad & grandpa. 20' cane pole, Black & White DareDevil, bailing a wood strip boat while inhaling fumes from what was probably a 5 hp two stroke. Today, I don't have to bail the fiberglass boat.

Location: Athens, Ohio | My first memory - after being reminded of the story for many years later - was smallie fishing with my dad on Norris Lake on New Year's Day. Dad was from Minneapolis and found it quite novel to be fishing soft water on Jan. 1. As the story goes,. we met up with dad's buddy - Sen Howard Baker Sr. - and each got a boat from the marina. They would pick a cove and dad would start at one end and Sen. Baker and his partner at the other and they'd mnet in the middle and compare notes by passing a paper bag between them. Baker was concerned at first of my presence, but apparently I'd curl up in the front of the metal boat on dad's duffel bag and sayed quiet. Dad had a radio along and somehow I still recall the Koodak ad they kept playing. strange. m
