Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | In its' ongoing commitment to improve the Muskie resource, the Twin Cities chapter of Muskies' Inc. stocked 40 Leech Lake strain yearlings into White Bear Lake today. The fish ranged in size from 18 to 24 inches long. Attending the event were; Preisdent Joe DeMars,John Newman,Greg Ide,Jeremey Knutson,Laura Morrison, and myself. However, many people from the chapter donated time and money to organize this event even if they were unable to attend today. The fish were purchased from the MN. Muskie Farm near Alex. Mn. for $25.00 each. This represents only a partial stocking of the fish that we have committed to the lake this year. The rest will be stocked if Mother Nature allows. There has been some trouble in netting the fish out of the rearing ponds, but the MN. Muskie Farm is hopeful that the rest of the fish will be able to be stocked yet this year. I would like to inform the public the the Mn. DNR no longers stocks this lake. Most of the fish in White Bear are the result of efforts by the Twin Cities chapter and its' members including Paul Hartman who has raised and donated monies from his MN. Tourneys, dating back to 1990 when 300 fish were put in. The chapter rasied about $7,000. to stock fish into White Bear this year and those funds are committed even if we're unable to get the rest of the fish stocked this year. This was the first time I personally have been able to attend a stocking effort. Way cool, peolple! One of the larger fish was uncooperative in going into the dip net so the guy from the fish farm reaches in the tank, grabs the fish and hands it down to me. I grabbed it and hung on as it was squrimming and ran down to the waters edge and placed it in. It sat on the bottom for a few seconds and then took off. As I said,Way Cool. It felt better than the release of my biggest muskie, because for the first time I was able to put something in that wasn't there before. Thank You Gil Hamm for starting Muskies' Inc. Above, I mentioned the cost of the fish. $25.00 per fish. That's a reasonable amount to help insure the future of muskie fishing. What's the going price on some of the lures out on the market; $20.00,$25.00,$30.00 or more? I ask you, for $25.00 what is more likly to put a fish in YOUR boat, a new lure or more fish in the water? If you said, more fish in the water go pour yourself a cold one. My point is if you belong to M.I. get after your chapters board to help stock more fish in YOUR local waters and help them raise the funds needed. Don't buy 1 lure this year and give the money to stocking fish,$25.00 isn't a lot of money to buy a fish. I know other chapters are also stocking fish. If you don't belong to M.I. or another Muskie Club, join get involved. Muskie fishing depends on you! Please do your part to insure great fishing for yourself and future generations.
