Curious to what you all think. I had a 42 inch fish hit a Lilly tail on a figure 8 and after a short fight I netted the fish. The fish was hooked with the single hook on the tongue. I took the jaw spreaders and cut the hook and removed the entire hook. I was by myself so I didn't even take the fish out of the water or even touch her but she turned belly up when I pulled the net out from under her. So I spent 20 minutes, and another 20 minutes reviving the fish...she was breathing but kept turning. I got assistance from another rig and after about 50 minutes decided she was a goner and we thought we should probably clean it. The thing is this fish had a huge mandible deficit and also a protrusion on the left mandible. I am not sure if fish get sarcomas/carcinomas but it looked like one. I thought maybe the fish was stress intolerant due to an apparent disease. Anyway, as I put the trolling motor on the lowest setting working to the dock the fish "burped" and dove deep. One hour of reviving and she never came back up. What do you think? Thanks too Mark for helping me to if you are out there.

I think its stands a pretty good chance to thanks to your devotion to catch and release. If it didn't make it the important thing is that you did everything you could to revive the fish.

We had the same thing happen with a fish that a friend of mine caught. If they come up from the deep water, the air bladder that they have does not adjust quickly enough and they cannot release it right away. At least that is what someone told us. Anyway, I guess the best idea is to keep trying and hope for the best.

That has happened before, have been told by some to run your hand on their belly from the anal fin towards their head..pushing out the air bubble and they will go down.

The big 51.5 that phishhead and friends caught had this done to it and swam away strong.
It just circled on the surface they said and wouldnt go down..when they "burped" it, it then swam away.It came from 18' down trolling.

Maybe a good idea to do with all fish, when you set them back in the water is to just run your hand along the belly and push any air out that might be there...........???????????
