| Just wondering if any of the the guys on the forum besides obvious addiction ski or snowboard. Live in Chicago area and the closest decent place as I remember is Wausau without traveling 20 hours or taking a plane.

| Years ago...my teens through my late 20s, I was very much into downhill skiing. Even became largely competitive with slalom racing, downhill racing and moguls. Living here in the midwest, I'd ski every place the state of Michigan has to offer and would also venture out west to just about every resort Colorado offers as well as Jackson Hole, WY and on up into British Columbia Canada. I have a huge passion for the sport. However, sadly, I haven't clicked into a set of skis since 2003. Still have all of my skis...collecting dust...in my basement...again: sadly. I do miss it. However, life of a married guy with kids has now taken over my time and priorities. And as I've aged, my body is now telling me that my youth is waning. From years of skiing (as well as other high impact sports in my teenage years and early 20s) my knees are shot, my hips are shot, my lower back is shot. I often sit and daydream of hitting the slopes again just for the mere fun and enjoyment of it. Not to get back into competing. I wouldn't be able to do that anymore. That ship has sailed. But to just get out there and run the groomers again out west for the sights and to be back within the whole western ski town scene again. Maybe some day. Bucket List item maybe? I just seriously question if my knees would allow me to do so without serious injury? |

| I grew up skiing around Thunder Bay. started when I was 5 or so, raced, instructed, patrolled. went out west a few times to get on the "big hills". I have a board as well, although it didn't get as much use as the skiis.
Got married (to a non-skier), graduated, got a job, had kids, didn't ski for ages.......
In the past few years we started taking the family to Horseshoe Valley for a weekend trip each year, the kids are all speed demons, and are faster than their Dad who learned to ski just so we can do this trip.
I still beat them all every time, but boy is it nice to be "back home" on the hill.
I try to go to the hill once a week when I can, and mostly make it for the season.

Location: Smith Creek | Drive two hours past Wausau to Hurley/Ironwood. They don't have huge hills but i think most of the places have a half pipe.
another 2 hours past hurley is Mt. Bohemia, back country boarding. Big long hills.
