Subject: Need Help Repairing Reef Hawg

Just got back from my LOTW trip and my favorite Reef Hawg is in major need of repair.  The eye hole in front is stripped out, after a few casts it starts to come out.  How can I do to repair my favorite hawg???  Please don't tell me its ruined!  Also, what size are the cotter pins?  I need to get a bunch of them.

i know the pins are 2" and you do cut a little of them off when replacing old ones. not sure about the eye, you mean the line tie eye? it might just screw in and maybe a longer and/or thicker screw eye would work with some super glue added to the hole? i bet beaver could help you more than i... look up his name in the members secton and you can email him, he has helped me in the past with reef hawgs... this place is great, all ya gotta do is ask and help comes!

luckymusky said what you need to do. I would go to a .092 stainless screw eye the right length. One more thing you could do is give it a few coats of envirotex making sure you get it in the cotterpin holes. If you want it to soak up water to get heavier do NOT do this. A few coats will add some weight but not allow it to soak water. If you envirotex it and the envirotex gets cracked the bait will soak water and peel the envirotex off.

H20, are you saying a longer or thicker screw eye?  I don't want to put any sealant on the lure, I love when its water logged.

use a thicker screw eye (stainless steel of course) you also might want to epoxy the eye in when you are putting it in. If you do make sure you use enough that some of it comes out when the eye is screwed in. wipe of the excess. Make sure you use the 24hr (slow cure)epoxy. Later if you ever have to replace the eye heat the screw eye with a pin point torch or soldering iron the epoxy wil melt enough to remove the eye.
