What are you guys using as an alternative to head cement sold at fly shops or other stores for tying bucktail skirts. I would like to buy a larger amount, and this stuff is spendy! I have heard of using "hard as nails" fingernail polish, but that isn't much cheaper.

super glue then you can try devcon 2 ton epoxey top coat dry fast

When I first started tying tails I used super glue, then head cement & for the past 7 years I've been using Sally Hansen HARD as NAILS. The hard as nails holds up a lot better & it's cheaper.

I use the Hard as Nails, its only like 2 dollars a bottle. I think the min number of coats you should use would be 3 I think I have settled on 6 as what I'm doing its way over kill but I like the look.

use 5 minute epoxy for the hair, you can use this for the finished head as well, but it will turn cloudy. E-tex or tru-coat is best for the finished head as it will be clear, hard and look like glass. this takes much longer but is a far superior way to build.
