Posts: 470 | Hey all, Wanted to share a couple of pics with everyone, it was kinda an unfortunate thing for the fish but my kids definitely are showing the right attitude toward Muskies and respecting our home fishery. Last Sunday we were cruising around Webster lake right before packing up to leave. We hadn't been fishing all weekend, water too hot, but having fun tubing, etc. As we are running along the South end of the lake near Yellow Banks, Netgirl spots something floating on the surface that she Id's as a fish. I alter course to intercept and yep, It's a Muskie floating belly up. We get close and the kids spot it's fins waving and gill movement. Barely taking the time to put on the life jackets (only doing it because MrsB screamed at them..) they go over the side and spend the next 1/2 Hour in the water trying to revive the fish, including swimming out into deeper water and trying to hold it below the surface where it was cooler. Wish I had a happy ending for you guys, but the fish had a nasty cut on it's back that looked to me like it had been hit by a prop and probably had a broken back. Netgirl reported it didn't seem to be able to move it's tail or back fins. They measured it in the water and we had to let it float, as it was undersized at 40" Really proud of the kids dedication in trying to save that fish, it's always good to see something you've been trying to teach 'em has gotten through and stuck. We spotted a floater a few years back and my sons took turns working it for about an hour. I believe a non-musky guy had an incidental catch and handled it badly and just threw it over the side of the boat. It did swim off, but who knows? | ||
