Hi I'm looking into purchasing my first pair of knipex bolt cutters and was wondering if anyone has used both and has a preference for one or the other.

I feel like the angled would be great for close cuts outside of the muskies mouth or hook cuts close to your own skin but not quite as good for deep hook cuts, whereas the straight would be best for deep hook cuts but not as good for close cuts.

So basically just wondering which one you use and is there any reason why you chose a straight over the angled? or vice-versa.

i'm leaning towards the angled as of right now... Since I feel if I ever have the unfortunate experience of hooking myself to a musky, the flat bottom of the angled head would be the safest way of getting close to my skin to cut the hooks.... but also feel when #*#* hits the fan the angled head may just cause more problems, since you have to worry about getting the right angle to cut the hooks, more so, then with the straight head.... so should my first pair of knipex be a straight or angled version and why.

Thanks a lot and tight lines

If you become attached to a bait that is also attached to a fish, you won't care about getting close to your skin. And you likely want to leave something for he ER doc to grasp onto when he pulls it out. Or you'll want something to push on to pop the barb through so you can yank it out yourself.

When you do buy them check the site that has the same name as a big river in South America... Good deals on there, especially if you're a prime member.

I am in favor of the angled. I feel like it is easier to get into tight places.

I'm in for the straight. I have both for my line of work and I feel that it is just as easy to get a close cut with the straight ones. Either one you pick at least you know you have a killer side cutter.
