Posts: 40 | Looking for a used rod for sucker fishing. Maybe 2 if the price is right. I would be happy with a much older rod, as long as it is functional. Budget is very limited. I have two 6500 reels which would go on the rods. I am located in Central Wisconsin, and travel to Hayward and NE wisconsin on a regular basis.

Posts: 1036 | http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-DepthMaster-reg-Trolling-Rod... I run a couple of these rods for suckers. 9 foot rod. Dipsey Application. They should be the last one listed on the site. I think they sell for about $19.99 or $29.99. They have been quite good to me.

I bought one for trolling last year and found it to be pretty noodley for probably at least the top 1/2 of the blank. Wouldn't have been my first thought for a sucker rod. Good price if it works well for you though.

But, keep in mind I fish southeastern Wisconsin a lot, and with suckers around 12-14 inches long. I haven't sucker fished in Vilas for a few years, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them there either, with larger suckers. I think the key is the hook size and sharpness. The other rod that I like is the 9 foot Shimano Talora, leadcore rod. It is a little stiffer, but not much. Same technique, same great results. I use those Talora's for trolling too, when I do it. Great rods. But those Cabellas rods are a fraction of the cost.
