I have a cousin that would want to be able to go with me this year and possibly catch a musky. I was wandering what would this reel be able to hande?
I would most likely be having him throw smaller bucktails like mepps and bluefoxes. Also suicks, burts n other jerkbaits. Maybe a regular dawg or two. Would it be able to handle them or even double 8's?

Appreciate any help...

I would recommend spending a few more dollars and go with a c3. The "s" version is the Chinese built model. Can't speak on the durability of the reel because I don't own one and don't plan on it. kdawg

kdawg is right. The S, BX, SX, BCX, etc are their chinese version and while they look similar, are not made with the same parts or quality. Step up to a C3 or C4 (C3 will have push button free spool, C4 will have thumb free spool).. I'd recommend a 6500 C3 or 6600 C4 if you're going this route.. If you put an ad in the buy/sell section of this site, I would bet someone has one for sale for cheap..

Actually the 6500 and 5500 are the push button models and the 6600 and 5600 have the thumb bar for the free spool. The C3 is 5.4:1 gearing and the C4 is the 6.4:1 gearing (hi-speed). And the "C" stands for ball bearing in the reel instead of bushings.

So a 6600C4 has ball bearings and a thumb bar with hi-speed gears. 5500 is a narrow spool push button with 5:4 gears and bushings.

The 6501 and 6601 are left side cranks, They call them lefties, I call them true right handed reels.
