Posts: 32890 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Judy was pushing hard to get out on the water Friday morning, while Gene was shooting the breeze with some of the other anglers...she literally dragged him out into the cold saying " Come ON, I need to get out there fishing!!" Judy is still recovering from a skiing accident last winter, but that didn't slow her down. Gene, you are a very lucky man.

Posts: 1764 Location: Ogden, Ut | Where do I start? Even before the big surprise, this was a great outing. I got my first fish 20 minutes into the trip and things only kept getting better. Lambeau and I fished a couple of lakes w/ Tuffy1 and Sled as a warm-up. We had plenty of action and a couple of fish in the boat before the official start of the Outing. It was sure fun seeing some of the participants again, and meeting even more for the first time (yeah, you too Beav!). The grasshoppers were cheap (and I quote, "Eight times four is twenty-four."; yes Norm, you just heard that), and the Brandy Alexander was scouted out and found to be quite acceptable... The fishing was great, the time spent with friends was better. And speaking of friends, mine went over the top by presenting me with that fabulous replica. Those of you who were there seemed to enjoy my state of shock when I finally realized what was going on. It is a moment I will remember and cherish for all of my days. And a note particularly to my new friend and great artist, Rick Lax, who apparently was somewhat anxious about getting it 'right' - you nailed it buddy! Of course, the sponsors and the hard work of Slamr and lambeau make opportunities like this possible, so many thanks to you as well. Back to Utah tomorrow AM, it's been a full week. Sorno

Best carry on ever. Just be careful after you land, because items in the overhead storage may shift during the flight. Kevin Put her in the ol' vise.

Posts: 327 | Team Rumbleknott had a blast for sure !! Thanks to Andrew , Mike and Steve for hooking it up AGAIN !!!! Thanks to Skyview and their staff for putting up with all of us , and thanks to all the sponsors who contributed as well !!! Fishing was great , it's the fisherman who couldn't pull the trigger to make the fishing GREAT !!! We had our shots at mutiple big fish but nothing to show for it , but that's part of the game !!! We had a shot at 1 fish that was pushing ( if not better ) than 50" on sunday and another that was mid to upper 40's on sunday , all we got was another ( yes another ) lost bait and a lost cell phone to show for it . It would have been nice to put one of those in the net , but it sure was nice to see ( another ) fish of that caliber !!! Anybody who missed this outing truly did miss out , what a blast !!! There are some real pigs up there and we were able to find them ( thanks Slamr ) we just couldn't manage to put one in the net ... but being a die hard Cubs fan I'll leave it like this .... " There's always next year !! " It was good seeing everyone again and I look forward to doing all over !!!

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Smokin Joe - 10/30/2007 3:57 PM Seeing Pointer on Sunday morning with a MASSIVE HANGOVER Yeah I was hurtin a bit, although I've been much worse. I think most of it was just wanting to be back in bed as I was rudly awaken by TJ and Spencer saying they were going to dump cold lake water and suckers on me! I think the worst part about it was not being able to enjoy the breakfast sandwiches....I love breakfast sandwiches and it took me about 3 hours to finish mine!

Maybe next time we can get a full day & I can see Lori out fish the Nightmare. Somehow, I wound up with the Presque Isle traveling trophy. I'll be sure to award it to some deserving muskie fisherman next year. FishingFool- (Paul). Great to see you again and share information. We definitely have to share a boat. You always have a spot on the back deck. PP102 (Mike Bolinski) Merckid (TJ DeVoe) - Spencer Berman: - Hey guys great to meet you. Nice to see some youngsters who are good sticks and really focused (well maybe not Mike) I don't think his focus was that great Sunday AM- He is definitely the party animal of the group. Now focus on school, I know you three are going to make some great contributions to the fisheries biology world. Spencer- What can I say? Thanks for spending two (2) days in a boat with me. I had a great time. For those who don't know who Spencer Berman (The Kid) is. I'm sure you will in the future. I predict his name is destined to be well known in the musky fishing community. Check this thread out. -> http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=37... Trip synopsis: Tuesday- Wanted to launch on PI but winds were pushing to hard into the dock/launch area. Spent the day on Clear exploring with my new Humminbird 997SI. No fish, but liked what I was seeing on the screen. Wednsday - Decided to give PI another try. Launched OK- went exploring. Found some really sweet spot's = saw a walleye guy(Scott Somers-Milw. WI) whom I met at PI Pub on Tuesday night. He was fishing a mid-lake hump. chatted a while & continued to map the lake with the SI (side imaging). Fished the north end reed edges- didn't see a thing. went south around Fireman's Point. etc. & over to "Tiger Bar" (If you don't know this one you have to ask Howie. ). The SI showed lot's of fish on it- so I cruised out to where Scott was & told him he should cjeck it out- saw them later- they popped a 27" walleye in first 5 minutes and had a large fish break them off about 10 minutes later- 40 FOW (probably a muskie). Winds were picking up pretty good so decided to call it a day- wind actually slammed my trolling motor into the dock, breaking the trolling motor mount. Crap! Had spare at home of course, so drove home that evening (4hrs) then drove back up Thusday morning to meet Rob & Lori at 1:00PM. Thursday Afternoon: Went to Crab with Rob & Lori, what a pretty lake, also very dangerous lake (right BigMo). There is no way I would ever put my boat on plane in that lake!. We had a couple of nervous suckers a couple of times but no fish. Friday: Fish with Bruce B. (one of the Three Amigo's from Chicago) in my boat. We launch in the fog on PI. Move around a bit looking for fish- go over to Finigan's Bar. drift & cast a bit on top of the bar - no takers. Move over to "Tiger Bar" & park- flat calm. Drop the suckers down to about 40' in 43FOW. Start casting up towards the hump- ~ 12:00 (actual right on the money according to Bruce's watch. The clicker on my Calcutta is going - line is going out to deeper water so this is no bottom snag- it's still dead calm. Grab the rod & slam the hooks home- nothing no sucker-no fish. Sh1t! it must have grabbed the back half of the sucker. Fished a couple of more sweet spot's but no action. Boat is loading up like crazy. Saturday: Fished w/Spencer in my boat. Changed plug's, Put fresh regular gas and both fuel treatment and octane booster in the boat- it was loading up after I put a batch of premium in it at the local gas facility yesterday AM. We went to Clear because everyone was seeing fish in weeds and I knew where there were good weeds. Launched- Took the boat out to blow some of the bad gas out of the lines & carbs. Pulled back into the launch bay (south side) There was a boat on the NE corner of the launch bay (turned out to be Landy). We rigged the suckers shallow and started casting me- a Sumway Giant Flasher and Spencer a 2lb'r dawg. He goes - I see we think alike, "big bait-big fish", yup. After about 20-30 minutes of the weeds, Spencer says" You can't stand this can you? me- nope!" We pack the suckers into the livewell and head out for some deep water edge structure. Spencer raised 2 fish on the first spot (~ 44), and had another fish rip the tail off of his 2 lb'r dawg. Yeah he really throws 2 lb'r dawg's. Better his young shoulders than mine. We spent most of the day on this 100 yd section/spot, the SI was showing lots of bait & fish in 20-30FOW. ~ 3:30 decided to cruise out to the mid-lake humps. passed Landy & crew. We marked the biggest fish I've ever seen on the SI ~ 50' from Landy's boat. I holler "Landy- big fish right there and point to the spot. We continue on to the humps- we mark a nice fish on the leeward side of one. I turn the boat so we are on the upwind side & let it drift across the spot with the mark- Spencer is still throwing the 2lb'r even minus the tail tip. Suddenly he says "fish about a 46", and is on his knees deep figure 8'ing the fish. I reach over and hit the "mark' button on the SI. By this late in the day my trolling motor batteries are shot from battling the wind all day in the other spot. I can't get back onto the spot, so I crank up the 150 & take us back to the other side of the spot, we drift over fast & get a couple of casts on her. do this a couple of times. Finally screw this, were going to anchor on her. Motor over to the windward side & drop the anchor let out about 100' of line & were on top of the spot. Drop the suckers down to ~18' in 23 FOW. We start casting suddenly my sucker makes a streak for the surface and actually jumps out of the water. We're both encourged by that. About 2 cast's later I see something deep under my lure- at least 12-15 feet down. But, it's definitely a fish no clue as to size. This trip I was "field testing" a new deep water muskie bait (soft plastic). I'm working it with 3' pulls. I feel weight- I go "Ohhh" and do a side sweep hook set. Nothing! I think maybe it hit the tail etc. I do a quick check of the back half for marks - none. It's coming up on 5:00PM- decide to get back to Skyview for the festivities. Sunday: Fish with Howie and Spencer. Another good day in the boat with Howie- lot's of laughs. It was great listening to Howie & Spencer discuss muskies & muskie fishing. Spencer learned a few knew trick's and I think Howie got to meet an up and coming new muskie stick. There is about a 45 year age difference, But you would have a hard time telling it. Lot's of stories and lot's of laugh's. I give Howie my new deep water lure & tell him about the previous day's adventure on the hump. He takes a much closer look & finds at least 3 major fang cut's one on the belly and two more up by the dorsal fin. It actually got bit by Spencer's ~ 46' fish, but no hooks. (more work to do on rigging it for muskies) . No fish this year, but still a great time in the boat w/ Howie & Spencer. Howie- As always great to see you again and spend another day in your boat. Mark me down for next year. Any fish on that PI Deep Water lure yet? Adam: Thank you for the terrific hospitality! Please pass my sincere thanks to all of your staff. They are firstclass! If I missed you in this long rant, I appologize. Hope to see you next year- I'm already making my reservation's. Also hope to see you at the Milw. Muskie Show or the Madison Fishing Expo. Maybe you can get a look at the new PI deep water muskie lure- still working on a name for it. Have fun! Al Edited by ESOX Maniac 11/1/2007 3:14 PM
