Posts: 32945 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Beav, Best place in the world to grieve is on the water, once the family is ready for you to take some time away. I know an old fart who'd be delighted to see to it you get out there, just give me a call. Sorry to hear about your Dad, Beav, hang in there and give everyone in the family a hug or 100.

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Beav, I been on the road for work and away from the board quite a bit the past few days. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Next weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) will be one year since we lost my wife's dad. I still remember those last few weeks like it was yesterday, time heals, but it still stings now and then. Prayers and thoughts are with you.

Posts: 35 Location: Burnsville, MN | Beav... I lost my Dad (my best friend) three years ago at 52, this poem meant a lot to me and I read it every day... hope it helps you too. I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says "There, she is gone" "Gone where?" "Gone from my sight. That is all" She is just as large in Mast and Hull and Spar as when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone says, "There, she is gone" there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout "Here she comes!" Hang in there Derek Schmitt

Posts: 656 Location: Forest Lake, Mn. | Beav: I'm sorry to hear of the pain you bear with the loss of your father. Grief is a cyclic event and not linear. One day you might be fine and the next day the pain seems overwhelming. Something triggers a memory of your dad, and it all comes rushing back. Don't let the pain overwhelm you. The pain is trying to teach you something. It's teaching you that if you hadn't loved your dad you wouldn't feel the pain of his loss. So the pain helps us to realise just how much we loved another and were loved in return by them. That is a great gift, even thoug it seems that it's a great burden too. I don't know that time heals all wounds. Some wounds might run to deep to ever heal completey, but time does allow us to accept that which has happend and learn what we can and must learn from events like this. In time, the pain does lessen, and maybe forms a scab over the wound. But there it's always there underneight the surface and you learn that though it's there and may never completely heal, that your stronger than your pain, and the burden is lessend. In time it can teach wisdom. In the last 8 years I've lost both parents, and uncle, and my wife. The hurt may never go away, but in time we learn that we are stronger than we ever thought. If things seem to overwhelming, join a grief support group. There you will learn that your not alone and the feelings that you think no one else can understand, you'll find that there are a lot more fold who understand than what you ever thought. My prayers to you and your family. " I am the way, the truth, and the light. He that belivith in me, though he dies, yet shall he live." Your dad is waiting for you, Someday you will be reunited with him, and then there will be no more grief.
