First off, why did you take my turtle?
Secondly, it is terribly cruel to take his fake leg off thereby taking advantage of his disability and drawing attention to his short coming and absolutely crushing his self-esteem. All the other turtles will be ridiculing my three legged fish detector!
And whatever comes after secondly, you have exposed my only magical muskie secret for all the world to see. Now I will be just another muskie hunter with a three legged box turtle on the bow of my Tuffy Esox Magnum!

| Gracias Mikester; same to thee! Sorry Stever, but it was time to literally let the turtle outta the box. Besides, most peeps have neither the patience nor the faith to subdue and train the 'tile properly, and few realize the sensitivity these gentle creatures posess, thus the average fisher peep gives up much too soon on this stunning and productive method. I've recently produced a CD titled "Trusting Turtles", which should give new users the confidence and know hows to persevere during turtle training and getting to know one another. Also included are tips on the various types of shoe box homes, air hole placement in the lids, proper discipline techniques, and many other useful hints on turtle maintenance. Few folks realize that by duct taping a hand warmer to the shell and placing pop bottle caps on their feet that the creatures can also be used to locate fish laden spots on ponds and lakes during ice over!
I understand that some readers may become angry w/ the fact that a 3 legged turtle is used, but having lost too many 4 leggers crawling over the front of the boat, you can understand the reason; a 3 legger generally just travels in a circle, and lacks the ability for leverage. The turtles we now use are bred strictly for 3 leggedness; turtle leg traps were banned in 1971. I run a small company called TPI(Turtle Prosthetics Institute) that produces various missing turtle parts that enable the turtle to function normally during the off season, and this concept has gained vast acceptance in the animal rights community. Me goal is to see a turtle in every boat by 2009; by working together, this dream can become a reality in our life time... |

Location: Greenfield, WI | Mr. Sponge, I now see the rationale that you are using in your quest of the propigation of muskie finding turtles. Your intentions may be noble, but the question still remains.........when do I get my previously secret fish finding turtle returned to me?.....
Don't try to substitute another less trained turtle because I will know the difference!

Location: north central wisconsin | Remember key experiences. Use past success regarding presentation, boat control, lure type etc etc., and duplicate to up your odds on successive trips on that and similar waters. A 6th sense of what to naturally do could/will eventually develop when faced with varied conditions that resemble those from memory bank and you won't even know it. |

| I would say ...... dont expect there to be any 'justice' in muskie fishing.
and and and..... stay as far away, as you can, from the guys that wear the nascar promotional shirts. you may actually DIE of laughter if you get to close. (seriously)

| If possible don't be afraid to fish different types of lakes. Diversify your knowledge of water so when the going gets tough on one system you can have the confidence to jump to another if you are within close proximity of other muskie water. |

Location: Marshfield, WI | I think fishing with new people helps a lot. I fished w/ Reef Hawg once and Muskynightmare 4 times this past season. Jason gave me confidence to use a bait I hardly ever threw and ended up catching a bunch of fish on it later in the season. I helped Rob learn how to fish gliders and he caught his first musky on a glider on our last trip. He also showed me a new lake and I got my biggest that day and also had my first 3 fish day in WI.

You mean stay away from folks like Gary Roach, Carl Grunwaldt ( yes, he fishes muskies ALOT) and maybe Gary Parsons or Keith Kavajecz? Crash Mullins? Pretty broad brush stroke there. It's a requirement of many sponsor companies that one wear that shirt at public appearances, tournaments, and even sport shows. I guess I wouldn't 'die laughing' talking to Crash about Cave Run Muskies at a Muskie show or a PMTT, but that's me. Mr. Roach has boated a few muskies in his day, as have Kavajecz and Parsons, and those folks will forget more fishing related information than most of us will ever have the opportunity to learn, so I'd not discount them too awful much.
Keep an open mind, listen to the ideas and concepts of the 'best of the best' and the 'new to the sport', they just might know something you don't that could help put the next Muskie in the Frabill.
