Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | muskie! nut - 5/24/2009 10:50 PM I remember Mike Cookas telling us of river fishing in northern WI and he hooks this real nice muskie at night on the river and he often gets out of his small john boat to fight a fish. He did so this night thinking he was in a section of river that was shallow and he went in over his head. I was laughing so hard I never remembered if he caught the fish or not. :) One more reason to keep you Butt in side the boat.. .. Funny story. Jerome

Location: SE Wisconsin | Had to bite my toungue this weekend. I wanted to get out of the boat to fight a fisherman! A guy in a row boat on the Wisconsin River at Boom Lake was fishing crappies 10 feet from his boat with bobbers. As the wind was blowing, my partner who was in control of the trolling motor, did his best to steer around the man, which he did successfully. Now, the guy was anchored right in a stump field we were moving through, and of course we were polite about the fact that we were within 40 feet of his boat by casting to the outside so as not to disturb him. Well, I turn around after my partner says something only to see a bobber, jig and minnow close enough to my face to bite the minnow off before the jag closed his bale before it hit me. . . I mean, JUST IN TIME! I don't say anything because my partner already gave a loud chuckle and said, "There you go, that's the spot". The guy then replies, "Do you think you own the lake?!?!" With plenty of cursing mixed in, plenty! Now, this is after I just watched him catch two small bluegills and slam them on the edge of his boat, left to float belly up to their watery graves. My partner explains that with the high wind, we tried not to interfere, that's why we were casting on the opposite side of the boat, plus we're more than 40' away from you and you're bobber fishing 10' from your boat. The guy got so pissed off by that seemingly appropriate response from my partner, he took his oar out and started hitting the side of his aluminum boat. I never said a word the whole time, in fact, the whole thing was pretty awkward. But instead of having to get out of the boat to fight a fisherMAN, I let him beat himself up. WOW, what a story that was - good to breathe it out.

Posts: 97 | I think it would be in my best interest to keep the story under wraps. However I will say, it involved several blatent cutoffs, an invitation to take it up to the shore, and the rest is history.
