I used taxidermy alligator eyes on this one and I love the look. It's a Western Red Cedar Blank, 12" long, uses 1.5" .092" stainless eye screws, has 6 coats of Diamond 2, taxidermy alligator eyes, and dives in the 5-10' range. It weighs right at 7oz. with three size 7 Mustad 3551 muskie trebles. Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Finally got around to making more snake skin lures. The two in the 8" minnow body are from cedar. The are sealed with sanding sealer and use .092" stainless eyes screws, big stainless split rings, and size 3/0 3551 Mustad's. They also have taxidermy alligator eyes and sea snake skin. They are finished with 5 coats of Diamond II epoxy. The big one in the bottom picture is an 8” in a baitfish style body. It is from maple and has all of the same hardware as the others. It is wrapped in python skin and has regular stick-on eyes. The little guy in that picture is one of my new body styles. It’s from cedar and has the same hardware as the others. Not sure what type skin it’s wrapped in…it was in the bargain bin! This is a big one! 12" cedar blank, 1.5" .092 stainless eye screws, 2x size 6 split rings, 7/0 3551 Mustad's, and a big whoppin' diving lip. Comes in at just over 7oz total. This will be a trolling lure. Sorry, no taxidermy eyes on this one- couldn't find any that looked good. Finished it with 7 coats of Diamond II epoxy- this stuff is WAAAAAYYYY better than Etex. It's much easier to apply because it's a medium build epoxy and it's noticeably clearer. I played around with the gills and I couldn't really find something I liked, hopefully it doesn't look too bad. I've casted it a few times and it seems to run great. This first one is a cobra skinned lure and the second is made from python skin.
