Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Here's another one I did for Bullard Intl. It's the same as the rest: 8", about 3oz, maple blank. I used taxidermy alligator eyes on this one and I love the look. It has 5 coats of Diamond 2 epoxy on it. jeremy Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | @Fiedler, sorry dude, the eyes are something new. They are expensive (about $7 a set), but worth it in my opinion. @Tim, I got the skin on yours last night and I'm doing the eyes and the first epoxy coat tonight! Yours has the exact same eyes, only bigger to match the size of he lure. In case you haven't checked your email yet- I test casted it the other night in my pond and it swims like a champ! It hits bottom in my pond which is 6'. But, I can make it run shallower by holding the rod tip up- seems like it will be in the 5'-10' range that you wanted. I went with Western Red Cedar for yours because of it's buoyancy and it holds up well if a muskie should happen to punch a hole in it. It will have 5-6 coats of epoxy so hopefully that won't happen. I also sealed the cedar with sanding sealer. I'll post pictures when it's done. jeremy Edited by bowhunter29 5/27/2010 6:01 PM

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Here's one I just finished for Tim Schmitz. It's a Western Red Cedar Blank, 12" long, uses 1.5" .092" stainless eye screws, has 6 coats of Diamond 2, taxidermy alligator eyes, and dives in the 5-10' range. It weighs right at 7oz. with three size 7 Mustad 3551 muskie trebles. Tim, I hope you have a big rod to throw this beast! jeremy Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]()

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Chasingeyes, I appreciate the offer but the skin that I need is the actual skin off of the snake. The skin is removed and then tanned into leather. Shed skin won't work for what I'm doing. thanks, jeremy

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Finally got around to making more snake skin lures. The two in the 8" minnow body are from cedar. The are sealed with sanding sealer and use .092" stainless eyes screws, big stainless split rings, and size 3/0 3551 Mustad's. They also have taxidermy alligator eyes and sea snake skin. They are finished with 5 coats of Diamond II epoxy. The big one in the bottom picture is an 8” in a baitfish style body. It is from maple and has all of the same hardware as the others. It is wrapped in python skin and has regular stick-on eyes. The little guy in that picture is one of my new body styles. It’s from cedar and has the same hardware as the others. Not sure what type skin it’s wrapped in…it was in the bargain bin! Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Finished another snake skin. This is a big one! 12" cedar blank, 1.5" .092 stainless eye screws, 2x size 6 split rings, 7/0 3551 Mustad's, and a big whoppin' diving lip. Comes in at just over 7oz total. This will be a trolling lure. Sorry, no taxidermy eyes on this one- couldn't find any that looked good. Finished it with 7 coats of Diamond II epoxy- this stuff is WAAAAAYYYY better than Etex. It's much easier to apply because it's a medium build epoxy and it's noticeably clearer. I played around with the gills and I couldn't really find something I liked, hopefully it doesn't look too bad. I've casted it a few times and it seems to run great. Haven't had the time to troll with it yet. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 366 | So you put real snake skin on the baits and then paint and clear them? Well, however you do it, those things are freaking wicked. Very, very nice work.

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | @Fishwizard Yep, that's pretty much how I do it. I don't like using too much paint on them because I like the skin to show as much as possible. I usually paint the bellies white and once in awhile I but gill plates on them. @Ryan- PM sent jeremy Edited by bowhunter29 9/19/2010 9:18 AM

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Two more of my 8" cedar bodied snake skin lures. I have one more epoxy coat to go on them but I couldn't wait to post the pictures. This first one is a cobra skinned lure and the second is made from python skin. Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Posts: 540 Location: MN | Hey, Jeremy been a while since I checked in with you. I see your still cranking out awesome baits that cobra is unreal. My snake skin is holding up great and as it gets later into the fall I'm confidant it's going to get crushed. I. Also wanted to ask you if you ever run across any corn snake skins the red, black and yellow ones? Let me know what you come up with and keep up the stellar work.

bowhunter29![]() |

Posts: 909 Location: South-Central VA | Yep, they catch fish. The blanks are cedar so the lures have great a great wobble. The fish seem to really like the high contrast of light/dark with the cobra, python and sea snake skins. I've caught several nice largemouth on them when I test them in my ponds. I have guys using them for bass, striper, pike, and musky. jeremy
