Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Georgian Bay Question

Subject: Georgian Bay Question

Looking through the last MH issue I saw the ads for the Ontario Musky Alliance. Anyways the Georgian Bay perked my interest and I've heard quite a bit of good stuff on the waters. Just wondering is all the musky fishing there spent trolling as one would troll for salmon or lake trout on say Lake Michigan? What is the total acraege of the bay? One must need a pretty good sized boat to be out on that water. If it isn't all trolling, I'm guessing one would use a boat similar to those on Lake Michigan used for salmon fishing and if so aren't those boats hard to cast out of for musky? Seems like your pretty high up off the water. Thanks for the info.

I fish Geogian Bay pretty much exculsively so i can provide you with some insight. Trolling is not an absolute on Georgian Bay, but it is a staple for those who are after the truely big fish in the Bay.The total acres of Georgian Bay is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30,000. If you wish to travel out into the open water you would need a good size boat. However, there are still possibilies to fish the inland rivers and lakes which flow out to the Bay. If there are any further questions I can answer, please let me know.

Looking at the small map on that ad in MH that water looks a lot bigger than that. 30,000 only puts it at a third of the size of Leech in MN. Thanks for the info.

Thats just the inland water area and then there is the open water which leads out to Lake Huron.
