| I can't seem to troll with mine. I do think the hooks on this bait are relatively small comparing to the other bucher models. Should I upsize the hooks? Or weight them? |

I have about 4 shallowraiders and I don't have any trouble trolling mine. However, I don't troll them very often. When I do it's usually over shallow weed beds, when the weeds grow up to about 2 feet (.25 or.5 meters) from the surface. They will not troll very fast. Due to the thin profile and light weight they will roll over on their sides. They are for slow trolling. Besides, most jointed baits don't troll very fast to begin with. For speed trolling I like a solid bait better.
I like to cast them and then work them as twitch bait. Vary the twitches and timing and you can get them to dance. I seem to catch more pike than muskies with them, but you don't have muskies there anyhow.

| paul, thanks for the info. I have two and have only used them for casting. I wanted to move to another spot last time and just trolled the short stretch and that's when I noticed they didn't track straight. But I don't use them for trolling either normally. I use the straight model 7" shallowraider for that. The jointed one has a nice action when retrieved slowly and doesn't run too deep. |
