| i was currently running a 8ft H st croix premier muskie rod with a calcutta 400 Te and it performed aright. i had recently sold the rod (kept the reel) and purchased a st croix legend tournament long ranger. this rod seems goos but a bit light imo. i was just wondering if any of you could reccomend a good rod for using pretty much everything except for bigger sized bulldogs. biggest id go is a regular dog. i would like to cast or burn bucktails, either 8's or 10's, cast topwaters like topraiders and cast regular dogs and medussas. is this rod wrong for these applications? just wondering what you think would go best with my reel and be the best all around rod for the lures i suggested above? should i upgrade to a sling blade or do you have other options? by the way i dont really like stiff rods, soemthing with a little tip and some backbone is fine as long as its not a 2x4

Location: Bonn, Germany | If you are lucky enough you could find a St. Croix Legend Turnament Mega Swimbait. It´s 8´ and almost the best rod i´ve ever used for small baits. Other options are the top n tail or a lip stick, but i think the lip stick is not stiff enough for fishing dawgs. |

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | The long ranger should handle the 8's topwater and I've thrown up to regular dawgs with it. Imo it is a bit soft for 10's though. Big nasty is awesome at dawgs, mag dawgs, 10's, cranks, and I've only thrown a few topwaters with it but it worked fine. I still like the long ranger for everything you mentioned except the 10's but then again my favorite rod is my top n tail. Sounds like you would enjoy the big nasty though. |
