I picked up a used weagle and wanted to do a repaint on it. It is the only lure I will probably ever paint, so I will not buy a airbrush for it, and doubt my Graco paint sprayer will work... My question is can I use a spray paint with an clear coat finish? If so, what readily available products may work. I am not too worried about the finish not lasting, as I only fish maybe 10 days a year. And being a topwater, it won't be crashing into rocks etc.

Thanks and you guys do awesome work!

You can use spray paint put on 3 or 4 coats letting it dry in between same with the clear ,use a gloss clear over it like krylon. Keep the paint handy and do touch ups when needed. It will nick and scratch on every cast tho from hook rash so just be aware of that, good luck with it.

Just my 2cents because I've repainted at least 100 Weagles.......they were made by different people at different times. Every one I repainted I stripped down to bare wood and started over from scratch. Some were sealed, some were not. Some were primed and some were not. Some were painted with appliance paint and never clearcoated. If it's the only one that you're ever going to do, take it down to bare wood and give it 2 coats of sanding sealer and go to a hobby shop and buy small cans of paint that guys use for model rockets then give it at least 2 coats of clear, maybe 3.
