I am looking at buying a used boat with this motor (1999 evenrude 150 ficht) and was hoping I could get some insight from everyone as to the good/bad/ugly with the 1999 ficht. I have heard some different opinions and just don't want to buy something I'm not going to be happy with.

Thanks in advance for your responses,

Doc

I remember walleyecentral's boat&motors site having an extensive discussion on the FICHT motors. Try their search feature. You can also try www.bassboatcentral.com and go to the OMC owners' page. To each his own, but I saw one of the FICHT motors after it caught fire on its maiden voyage at Dale Hollow and it (and the owner's face) was not a pretty sight. m[]

Buy a merc Opti-Max and you will be happy. Its direct injection is at a low 80 psi with a finer mist then other DFI's witch can be at a dangerous 600 to 800 psi.

That's a pretty bold statement Cory. Take a look how many people @ WC love their "Optiblast". The truth is, ALL DFI's have problems! You'd be better off just buying an EFI or a 4 stroke. With the cost difference between an EFI vs. DFI, most people will NEVER make that money back in gas savings. The oil for DFI's is also 2x more expensive.
