I use jackpots for topwater lures and was wonder how docs work and if there better. And I was also wondering how giant dardevils work.
thanks

I've seen larry dahlberg use a thin, wide daredevle spoon as a surface bait in the tape "musky mechanics" from In-fisherman. He cast it out and with the rod held high he twitched it back to the boat. When doing that the spoon skittered across the surface causing quite a lot of commotion. You can compare it to when your spoon keeps sliding on the surface after you start your retrieve because it rests on the round outer surface and it doesn't enter the water. He kept fishing it that way on purpose.

The doc is a great surface lure. It is bigger than the jackpot (9") and has a really loud pop and rattle, that I think really attracts the fish. Also, it is plastic (I think the jackpot is balsa, not real strong) Its even the same price as a jackpot.

I like the doc. It sits lower, pushes more water, glides just as easy and has a rattle.
