Location: Utah | I've been toying with the idea of purchasing an electric troll for my 1800 Lund Fisherman. Any advise on possible thrust, shaft length, type and model you'd recommend for an electric troll much appreciated. Thanks in advance K2 |

| Things to think about before you buy:
Do you have room for two batteries? That will settle the 12 or 24 volts question.
Lake or river? Do you need power against a current?
How large of waves will you fish in? The larger the wave to longer the shaft to keep the prop in the water.
All things being equal, go with the largest unit you can afford. It might keep you off the rocks one day.
I would not be concerned that the troll motor was over powered.

| I would go with a Minn Kota 70lb 24volt if you can fit 2 battery's. |

Location: Hopefully on the water | I would agree with cimusky on a lot of his thoughts to put into it but would like to add a couple more things.
What type of structure do you fish? If it is shallow with rocks or stumps I would recommend a cable driven trolling motor as you can work it particially out of the water lifting the motor part of the way out. If it is deeper water then the elcetronic is good.
Also how is your experience on them before? Are you use to being able to turn on a dime or adjusting yourself a touch slower.
i do agree to get the longest shaft and the biggest thrust you can afford. As far as brand I have always been partial to the Minn Kota myself. Motor Guide makes some units also. |
