So, I've got seven musky rods/reels in my boat, all of which exceed 8' in length. The problem is that my rod locker only accomodates 8' rods. Others must have this problem, too. Currently, I'm strapping them down on my passenger rod ramp while trailering. Is this the best solution? What are you guys doing to store your long rods while trailering the boat, or even fishing when you don't want to have so many rods on the deck?

simply lay them on the front deck when trailering from place to place, they don't move around. Can drive 15 hours with rods on the front deck without issues. When I am fishing they simply go off to the side, and along the single console windshield.

If you can't put'em in the locker, don't want to put them in the truck and like the ones you have, you're probably stuck with the rods you have now. My suggestion in addition to strapping them down would be to get reel covers for the reels and have the rods facing towards the reel of the boat if possible. Road grime, dust and whatever flies around on the road is probably not doing anything good for those reels. With most reel covers you need to take the reel off the rod, but if you were to get over-sized covers you might be able to keep them on.

I'm finding the way to go is with fewer rod combos that are able to effectively handle multiple types of lures/presentations is the way to go. I think it allows me to focus more on my fishing instead of trying to shuffle through a pile of rods, that get all tangled up. It is bad enough dealing with the pile of lures IMO. My goal is to try to limit my self to 3, maybe 4 rods at most & going with higher speed reels w/ power handles on at leat 2 of the combos. Makes it easier to to pick up lots of line quick for ripping/buring baits, but can still slow it down easy enought if I need to.
