I just got back from a week on Lower Buckhorn in the Kawartha region of Ontario.
We boated 12 muskies for the week. It was a struggle to put together a pattern with wind from the North and East most of the week. Our 2 best muskies were 45" and 44". The story that emerged was using Lindy Tiger Tubes as a throwback bait.

One morning while we were bass fishing before breakfast I casted a Weagle out the back of the boat and missed a strike. Just after that my brother says "Hey look at this musky right by the boat." As he picked up a Tiger Tube to cast to the fish the fish swam off. It was probably about 35". After about his second or third cast he shouts " I got him", but we quickly realized it was a different fish about 40". That fish managed to throw the hook, but I immediately put a Tiger Tube on one of my rods just in case we got another chance.

Later that day my brother has big follow. The fish is hot on his Dunwright glider and follows the figure 8 around before swimming off. I immediately picked up the Tiger Tube and casted in the direction to which the fish swam off. On the third cast I hooked up with the 45 incher in the attached picture. After a nice fight she was in the net. She released well after unhooking her in my Beckman and a quick picture.

Later in the week my bro had 2 more opportunities with the Tiger Tube which resulted in one missed fish and another hooked and lost. I never had a follow the whole week. Every fish I saw hit the bait. Thanks to my bro for bird dogging the 45" for me. That's the biggest one I have caught in several years.

My brother's biggest fish of the week 44" was caught on a homemade bucktail that I made for him several years ago so. Black/Yellow with a copper fluted blade has been a pretty good lure for him (made similar to a Buchertail 700).

Sounds like a nice trip. My apprentice is up there this week doing some Muskie fishing. I've never fished any of the inland waters in southern Ontario but have been wanting to get up that way and check it out.

Great report. Looks like you guys did quite well. My family has been going to Pigeon since the 1960's. Great lake. We hit Buckhorn a little too. Taking a year off from the Kawartha's though, heading to Vermilion this Saturday. Will be back on Pigeon next year though. Congrats again on some really nice fish!
