Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | I had a new Impeller put in last winter because of the over heat alarm going off while trolling last fall.
This summer every thing was fine untill I got into a few low water areas and sucked up some mud and sand, so now the same thing is happening again after about 10-15 min. of trolling. It runs fine at higher speeds......
Should I replace the water pump along with the Impeller this time or what?
It's a 2004 / 200VMax with 480 hrs. on it.

Location: syracuse indiana | yes change it.. also does your motor have a backwashout conector on the top of the motor.. i know that merc' and honda's do.. i would back flush her first and try it again.. but from the sound of it..you need a new impellar....bill |

If you get mud, sand, any sort of debris sucked into the impeller unit, it can potentially scratch the surfaces of the housing, plate, etc. When that happens, the impeller cannot work as efficiently pushing water up and through since some can pass by the impeller fins. Best suggestion as stated would be to replace the entire housing as well.

I highly recommend replacing the whole pump like archery nut said. You and I had this conversation at Perkins 2 years ago. When I went to outboard school they told us " a thimble full of the wrong sand, can destroy an impeller!" Especially if you are running to cave and such.
