Location: Yahara River Chain | I don't think so. They are use to slow your drift from the wind. If the water is moving as well, I don't see how they can work unless the wind is blowing the same direction as the current. Then it could only slow you down as fast as the current. |

| I've used them in rivers walleye fishing strictly from an anchored position when the wind is blowing upstream faster than the current.
I tried them to slow my trolling speed by throwing one off the bow and it works great....until you have to net a fish or help with anything else that requires you to let go of the wheel or the tiller handle, because the current grabs the bag and spins you right around.
Not a good choice on rivers IMO.

Location: Oregon | They work fantastic at slowing you down while trolling, holding you straight at anchor (assuming you are in current), or helping you continue to move downstream when the wind is wanting to blow you upstream. If you have a large boat (18' or bigger) I would go with two socks.
