If you have a fairly new 40 hp Mercury motor that is run no more than 15 hours a year, do you need to winterize it every year?

I had always been told that it is more important to winterize if the motor is used less. Less use means the gas will gum in the carbs more, and condensation will have more time to form rust on the walls of the cylinders.

Yep, also check the water impeller, since it can dry out and crack the rubber with so little use. m

definitely winterize it...especially if its not used often....

Impellers should also be replaced every other year or so...
