I was wondering what is done special to prevent damage to the boat/live well/ bilge pump and outboard when fishing and trailering a boat during below freezing weather?

I run mine till a week or so before ice up, I just make sure and lower the motor and let it drain at the ramp thats about it. I have had it froze up 1 or 2 times and it took awhile to thaw once in the water but no damage. I dont run my pumps, or try not to when its that cold. Nothing better than needing 3 rods to fish 1 to cast while the other 2 are thawing out

Do what shaley suggests, then, when you get home, lower and drain it again. Then bump the starter over once to be sure it cleared. Drain the bilge and any live wells you may have filled, run some RV antifreeze thru the system. Check the grease in the trailer hubs and keep filled to keep water out. I think this topic was covered extensively a couple years ago, try the search. m

I'll try searching for more information. Thanks. We can pretty much fish year round in MO. But after I recover from a surgery I plan on fishing the north country. Thanks again
