| I am looking at a new (to me) boat that has this motor, anything to be concerned about? The hours are relatively low and seems to be in good shape. Other than a compression check, is there anything a mechanic should look for? |

| A Merc dealer can get the history of the motor from the S/N, and he should also put it on the computer for a diagnostic scan. There were some issues with the early 3.0L Opti's, but those were pretty much cleared up starting with the 02 motors. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | my "issues" only cost me about 8 grand ... cylinder number 6 somehow doesn't get the cooling and/or fuel delivery it deserves ... or something like that.

| The Optimax is a good engine. That being said, any engine can be abused, and any manufacturer can produce an occasional lemon. Have someone do a diagnostic on the engine as Shep had suggested before purchasing. |
