Looking for a Big bait rod; was wondering how this rod would handle sucker fishing in fall when not casting. Was also wondering if the rod would be suitable for trolling a little bit. Will most likely pair the rod up with a big reel either Calcutta 400b or Abu 7000.

Mike, this rod was just introduced this past show season so I don't think it's been through a fall season yet. I would imagine it would work fine, but once it gets real cold, I would stay away from graphite. Real cold weather and a hard hookset can do damage. As for trolling, I don't troll up here, or should say I can't troll up here so I don't. But good rod otherwise.

If you want to stay away from all graghite I HIGHLY recommend giving Frank a call from Frank's Custom Rods 1-630-309-8055 He has a rod called the Calstar (spelling?) it is a fiberglass mid and but section with a graphite tip. It can be made to 9 foot and can throw ANYTHING on the market today, Cast it, troll it, sucker fish it. Do whatever you want with it this is THE TRUE Big Bait Rod. He also can build on pretty much anything you want, His Work it TOP NOTCH! Tell him I sent ya. Mike Leombruni

I agree 100% with what Mike said. I've been using the Calstar built to 9' for a season and a half and it is the BEST big bait rod out there period. Many will work without a doubt, but this rod is a true ROCKET LAUNCHER and unlike many of the big bait rods available today. It's NOT a "pole vault" and loads into an extremely powerful mid section.Great fish fighting action as well. Frankie is a true master and a great guy to boot. His # is 630-309-8055. I know he's getting really busy as word of the Magic Sticks has made it's way to Minnesota. Steve
