Hello everyone. I had a question I was hoping you guys could help me out with. I have fished for pike for years and feel they are a great game fish. When I look online at the fishing forums musky seem to dominate all forums for the esox species. Is there a reason musky are so much more popular then pike? Are musky more wide spread? Are they harder to catch? Thanks for any input. I always found it strange.

Yes, Muskies are harder to catch and their numbers aren't as great as Pike. Additionally, they are the King Dong Bing Bong of freshwater predator fish in North America. Muskies are also larger overall than Pike. Pike are great gamefish without a doubt and will give a great fight. To give an anology, musky is to pike what a Rolls Royce is to BMW. Both great cars, but a Rolls is a Rolls.

Although musky fishing has become more popular, we are still a very small group of people compared to those that fish for pike and particularly other species. As far as population in numbers, pike are much more numerous than the musky. The only reason musky fishing/hunting seems more popular online is that us musky guys don't know how to talk about anything else with the general public so we use places like muskie FIRST as a sort of therapy to feel normal. My doctor says there is nothing they can do to help us out.
