Posts: 4266 | I wa gaing to make some prism accented lures this year, but planned on doing some for myself first. From what I have read, some guys say that they put a coat of Envirotex on before they put on the prism so that the prism stays put. Here are my questions, comments...whatever. I've been putting eyes on lures for years and never had one come off. Why would the prism tape be more prone to lifting off? The portions of the lure that I will put the tape on is flat, so there won't be any rounded edges or other areas for the tape to crinkle, giving a rise to problems. What about spray on Envirotex, or a 2-part clear that I spray on? Will that provide a good enough area to guarantee adhesion? I plan on painting over the areas where the tape meets the wood, and blending the two surfaces together. Should I prime the lures, put on a coat of E-Tex, and then sand them with 800 grit sandpaper and then finish painting and putting the tape on? Can you tell that I've never done any taping before? I also picked up some flouescent pearl crackle that I was going to use on some "Night Gliders". Anybody with any comments for or against prism tape, gimme a shout. I want to do it right the first time. Also, how does paint take to prism tape? I pinstriped some tiger stripes with urethane on some tape just as an experiment, and there was no reaction. Slamr's been squawking at me to do some prisms for the last 2 years, and I never did. Now I want to try it just to piss him off Any help will be appreciated, and if it works I'll give you a public pat on the back. Thanks, Beav

I've made them with foils, crinkle, prizm tape, other transparent tapes and color sheets and I have had no problems with putting it right on the paint. I seal, prime, paint, add the foil or tape then clear. As you stated it's like a lure eye only bigger.

Hey Beav, You should be good with the flat sided baits. Devcon is your friend though if you need it. Either pre prism or post. If you put the prism on first just coat the edges with some thinned devcon to make sure it won't go anywhere. Lets see em when your done bro.

Having the flat sides makes it easy to press with no wrinkles. Just for the heck of it, I took a blank with some flaws on it and sprayed Envirotex on it to see it it made a difference. I let it dry until it was almost dry to the touch, and pressed on some tape and let it hang overnight. I couldn't peel it off this morning. So for the experimental stage, I'll use some spray on E-Tex before the tape. I used an exacto knife to trim right along the router line on the top and the belly, boh wound up with problems if I try to run it all the way to the rear of the lure, so I think that I'll go with a template. I have some dark Emerald green that I am going to use for Matrix. I think it'll look pretty cool. Green Prism/ Black Chrome Matrix. What do you night time fishermen think of a flourescent glider? I have flo. cracked ice that holds a charge for a pretty long time using a flash bulb. Do the glows help at night? I'm thinking not just for fish, but for visibility More later. Beav
