Location: North Metro | Anyone run this motor on their rig? If so, what is your gas usage like? Any issues thus far with it? Looking at a 2005 Tuffy 1760 that has a Merc XR6 150 on it. Total package goes for 21,000 new. Seems like a good buy, just need to know more about this Merc that is on it. Thanks. |

| Bulletproof motor. It is carburated, so it will use the gas, especially at WOT. |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | I've had friends with this motor. It's pretty much a chainsaw with a prop. Nothing wrong with it as it's proven technology and it should be bullet-proof for you. Josh did blow a powerhead on one, but his is the exception I think. Gas mileage will suck compared to a 4 stroke or DFI, but you're probably going to spend several $1000's less so it balances out in the wash I would guess.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I ran a couple XR6 Mercs on the 1760 hull, and really liked the motor. It's as strong a design as any out there, and is fast, too. You will be in the mid 40's at the 'sweet spot' rpm, and fuel consumption there won't be too bad at all. Open her up, and 50's somewhere will be the result. Apply an 8" set back and the right prop, and you can just barely tap 60. |
