any recommendations on a marine radio/antenna? I've got a Lowrance LMS480 GPS sonar, and it would be nice to tap into the existing GPS receiver and LowranceNET if possible.

Lowrance has a nice radio, with the DSC interface. No Lowrance net for it, but you can connect it to the NMEA 183 port. Should be able to find these for about $100, which is a pretty good value.

As for antenna, don't skimp here. I suggest a Shakespeare Galaxy. A 4 footer will work fine, but if you need to reach out and touch somebody, get the 8 footer. Good reception and distance is very dependant on the quality of the antenna. You'll pay more, but it will be worth it.

thanks Shep. I had checked the selection at Sportmans Warehouse and West Marine. SW had the Lowrance radio for $90, but the person I talked to didn't know if it would work with NMEA 2000. I'll look into the antennas you mentioned as well. I don't have a problem spending money on good equipment. Thanks again.
