Anybody here use these reels.I fish with one for a day and like the feel. Are they as tough as they talk them up to be.There big but that really don't me as long as they are tough .I'am sick of my new 7000 hs and having to it sent it back to garica a couple times now and having to wonder how many cast this fix has in it.Dennis Blume

The Bantam 50 is a workhorse. I have yet to read a Shimano brochure that failed to state how "ugly" the reel is (strange way to sell a reel, lol). Replacing the 2 sideplate bushings with a decent set of ball bearings makes a significant difference in freespool. Top end drag is a little weak (I believe it's a single stack if memory serves me) but smooth. Clicker is a plus for bait fishing. They used to make a magged model (long discontinued), but now make a linecounter version instead.
They're also a bit easier to palm than the "round" reels.

I wish they put an instant anti-reverse on the reel. I would probably have one if they did that. One odd thing, they made this reel into a line counter as well but proceeeded to take off the bait clicker on that reel!

This is truly a workhorse...I love mine...only had one problem and had it fixed 2 years ago...nothing but good since...I use is as a live bait/jig/trolling reel...love it...
