... I've heard a few different opinions on what kind of color and silhouette a musky sees in the daylight and at night and I'm kind of confused. Can anyone set this straight for sure or offer valid proof through experience on what the fish exactly sees, silhoutte and color-wise, with the color white? Is it the worst or the best during what times?

White is actually the reflection of all color, while black is the absorption of all. White is good against any dark background, while black is good anywhere. Keep in mind muskies look up most of the time, so on a cloudy day, white will not be as visible against a white to grey cloud background as black would. Jlong wrote an excellent article we will be placing here very soon that covers color and muskies as well as anything I have read.

My understanding, at least for trolling was to run the yellow belly lures deeper and the white belly lures higher. This does not answer your question much and I'm not even sure why this has been said, but is how I run my trolling baits. Kinda like smaller in clean water or early in the year and bigger in the fall or in dirty water.

Maybe the white so commonly used is from the forage fish having a white belly and dark back. Good camo, hard to see from above or from below. Still a lot of guys out there who's favorite color is Black. Who knows what the stinkin' fish are thinking? Would you, if you were a fish, eat a Banana or some other crazy colored lure?

Not scientific by any stretch, but a casual observation here.

My "go to" bait at night, even on the darkest nights, is an all white Eagletail bucktail. Can they see the color? Or, are they just responding to the whirring sound and pressure-wave "signature" of the lure. Don't know. Though do know I've caught a lot of nice fish on that thing in the inky blackness.

Whether they can see the color or not is immaterial in my way of thinking...I can see the bait better so this helps me figure 8 or do an "L" turn at the right time. What I really care about is if the fish will hit the thing, and they certainly do that, and do that pretty consistently, even after dark.
