| Heading to Mantrap Lake near Park Rapids from August 22-28th and looking for some info. This will be my first time fishing in MN. Any reports on the muskie fishing in this area? I know its been hot this summer. Hoping it cools off in the coming weeks.
If anyone has any advice for Mantrap specifically that would be awesome. I've done some research and understand the water is very clear, the fish can be boat shy, and low light conditions are best. From GPS imaging I can see that there are plenty of weeds on this lake, and some sand-bars in the larger basin (dont see much rock structure). We are staying on the west arm of the lake but I am hoping to explore it all wind and water level permitting.
Any help on fishing style, bait selection, boat placement, depth ranges, spots, or tips would be greatly appreciated! Hope everyone is having a great season. |

| You probably won't get much for responses on this little gem, as it gets plenty of intelligent muskie pressure - can have a good night bite - you'll probably have plenty of company even at night. Certainly focus on low light periods and if you get a cloudy windy day fish hard in those conditions as well. Hopefully by the week you are there general boat traffic will subside - but there can be a high number of pontoon boats driving right through all the weedbeds during the day - which is always a pleasant encounter - ha! There are big fish spread throughout the lake - Its not a hard lake to break down - study some maps...key is just being there when they want to eat, the big fish in this lake have seen every presentation you can imagine - good luck.

| Gotcha. Yeah I'm hoping traffic isn't an issue and that most kids/families will go back to school by that time. But didn't know about the muskie pressure. oh well. Thanks for your response! |

Location: Walker, MN | If we get some cooler nights, there could be a shallow push to reeds and inside weedlines. I'd fish early morning, burn a small bucktail shallow. Can be a good time of year to catch them shallow. Fish the whole lake, not just the deeper arm. Good luck! |
