Location: Hayward, WI | Hi there, been quite a while since I posted here but looking for help.
Unfortunately I burned up a bearing on my trailer last weekend and ruined the spindle. I'd like to replace the spindles rather than replace the whole axle, and found somebody that can do the work but I'm having trouble finding spindles that match.
I have a 2008 Tuffy 1760 GT on the original Tufftrail trailer. No brakes. I believe it's a 3500 lb axle with 1 1/16 and 1 3/8" bearings and has an EZ lube spindle with the grease zerk on the front of the spindle.
Everything I can find online has the bracket for brakes which I don't need. Not sure if I can use those spindles and just not use the brake bracket or if the spacing would then be wrong.
I may reach out to Recon who recently bought Tuffy but not sure how much they'll be able to help with the older trailer. Figured I'd check in here first.

| Per a search on here looks like it’s a Trailmaster/Vanguard trailer out of Indiana. They have a website and trailers look right. Good to hear that boat is still seeing water! |

Location: E. Tenn | If it's still legible, the information you'll need is on a label on the trailer itself. You'll need the VIN, and all the other info you need is there as well. If Trailmaster (J.Q. Tex these days) can't help you, the axle is likely made by Dexter. You can pick up a hub kit from eTrailer.
Had the same thing happen a couple of years ago, replacing the axle was the best way to go.

Location: Hayward, WI | Thanks guys. I spent a little time chasing my tail trying to save some money but in the end I did call up Trailmaster and should have a complete axle headed my way. About $400 total to get it to WI which is really pretty reasonable. Comes complete with hubs, bearings, seals, etc and even new springs. Just the parts to replace both spindles and bearings races etc would have been $200+ and that's not counting labor and the risk of misalignment.
Nick, yup it's still getting good use! Been very trouble free. Replaced the tilt/trim motor a while back, and a throttle position sensor a couple years ago. That's been it aside from this mishap. Been a great rig! |
