| Just getting my rigs ready. Ended up with 8' St Croix glass rods, Abu 6501 reels, and purchased a spool of metered 80lb braid. Reels can fit 150yds of it, wonder if one would ever want to run more? Should I opt for larger reels? |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Most of the time I have less than 50 ft of line out unless I’m using planer boards. Then I can get to 120 ft or so. I put about 100 yards on my trolling reels for good measure. I also “calibrated” my line counters where 100 ft on the ground is 100 on the dial. You control this with how much line is on the reels, not a gear change or other reel adjustment. This really helped with consistency once I found the depth pattern for the day. |

| A 6501 is a big enough reel to troll muskie with, you are going to want to put mono backing on anyway, use some cheap 8 or 10lb mono it’ll pack nice, put about 50-60 yards of this mono on, then as much of your metered line as you can fit, the only time capacity might be a issue is on a snag, if you ever find yourself getting close to the backing just back your drag way off,,which you have probably done already when snagged. |

| Most trollers use reels far bigger than necessary. Ive been using Tekota 300 series for over a decade and cant imagine any need for a 500 let alone a 600. If you can put 70-100 yds of 80-100 test you will never be lacking.
