Found out this morning I will be moving to Ithaca this summer. Excited to learn some new waters, and obviously have been looking into the Larry since areas of it are only 2.5 hours away. Virtually everything online mentions trolling as the thing everyone does out there. Nothing against trolling, but I personally have no experience in it and love to cast. I understand some waters obviously operate in a manner where trolling is the name of the game. However I’m sort of surprised to see everything online about trolling after thoroughly looking at the area on navionics. Some of the prime areas around Clayton, Alexandria bay, Odgensbrug….all have great amounts of small and mid sizes submerged humps at varying depths. Just seems like a place where running and gunning these spots and finding bait or which ones hold Muskies could be a fun time. Kind of like vermillion. Am I assuming wrong? Would I really be wasting my time out there if I’m not trolling? Thanks for any info!

It's a lot bigger than most systems that people fish, wind can also make it challenging to stay on "the spots"

Trolling seems to be the best way to get a hookup. That said the only luck I had there was driving buy a narrows and said "that looks fishy"

Trolling was the only game out on Clair for years. Do it up. Those fish may have never seen a figure 8 and may really lose their minds. Good luck and stay safe.

There is a lot of water, but you can absolutely cast. Bonus is that you catch A LOT of big multi species fish along the way that hit muskie baits up there.
