| Is anybody doing this with success? Catching a trout to toss back out as bait. I know some states it's legal and others it's not. I know people do this for catfishing with success. When I was catfishing a few weeks back I caught an 18"er channel cat and released it and within 5 seconds was a giant splash about 25' from me. I think it was a musky having dinner. |

Location: South Central PA | In PA you can buy hatchery trout and use them as bait. One our larger lakes has stripers and people just buy trout for bait + keep their receipt. Not sure about catching them and using as bait though. |

| I'm in pa , I looked through the rules for bait and it mentions gamefish but nothing about trout. As far as buying them, they probably wouldn't last more than an hour being so finicky. I don't really care for the taste of powerbait which is basically what they feed them in the hatchery and I know when they stock them its a dinner bell being that they are shocked and they can't survive in most lakes that they stock. For this purpose I bought a spanky baits shocker in rainbow trout, ill see how that works when it gets here. If color matters it should work pretty good.. Are you talking about Raystown lake? Always wanted to go there but no boat, would like to rent a boat for a week, sleep all day when they crazies are out then fish from dusk til dawn. Musky, stripers, walleye, small and largemouth, probably some huge catfish. Seems like it could be an anglers paradise! |

Location: South Central PA | Yeah I was talking about Raystown. Other than night time stripers - I hate that lake. A lot of boat traffic!
We fish the rivers here in central PA and do well. Heck my boy has 3 over 45" from a small river this year. I don't feel like we have the luxury of some of the big fish + numbers that are west of us. With the small river a lot of fish are caught in the low summertime conditions due to heavy fishing pressure and are kept or die. Lots of bass fishing accidental catches with people not knowing how to handle them especially yak folks.
