Any suggestions on whether leech or cass is better this time of year? Are the fish still in the weeds?

Was on Cass last weekend, fish certainly weren't in weeds. Open water bite

I got a follow from a mid-40s on a bucktail in the weeds of Allen's Bay of Cass yesterday, but didn't catch anything. Struggled badly the prior two days on Leech, with a pair of follows from small musky and landed three small 20-something-inch musky in the weeds along with a bunch of ratty annoying pike. Great weather, good fishing, but poor catching.

I've heard Leech doesn't get good until late-July. Not sure if that's true. The guide I talked to said my experience mirrors his lately.
