Location: Rhinelander, WI | Where is the best location to find TROPHY, sub 55 degree, draw-down, reservoir musky, the large deeper basins, the deep channel edges or someplace else?
Before I go back and reread Tony Grants article in the latest issue of Musky Hunter, I thought I would ask this question on the web.
There are a number of large reservoirs here in Northern Wisconsin that see a significant draw down and are known to have large ski. I am formulating a plan to attack them, if the traditional clear water pattern doesn’t develop this fall.
Just looking for a little help from those who may have some experience fishing this type of water with the water temps 55 degrees and under.
Thanks

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I have fished some of what you describe, and found the really big fish to relate to sharp breaks along river channels, by rocky shorelines, and near DEEP water. I like Boom in the main lake by town on the sharp breaks very late. Some systems are very low already, so the situation you describe is in place. The Little Eau Plaine (sp?) is an example. Roger Sabota catches a fair number of big fish on Boom, and if memory serves, he fishes the break along the park and landing quite a bit late in the year. |

Location: north central wisconsin | I hear you Steve. The Big Eau Pleinne flowage is as low as I've ever seen it, and it must be down over 5', crazy!!! Water levels are still down here to, but fish are in normal early fall spots, just further off. Just the last few days saw a push to deeper water from shallower weeds for the fish I've been targetting. I know some guys have been getting them along classic steep breaks for awhile now. |

| One other thing to consider,If they have been low all season or have been drawn-down several weeks before your going to fish it is GOOD! In my experience anything that has just been drawn-down, prior to just fishing it(say 2 weekks) in my opinion I would by-pass for a different pond! Big fish just seem to take a while to get set-up! Just my take on water-levels in general! |
