OK handymen, step right up. I just got my Garmin 162 UPS today. Before I head out to the boat and start tinkering, who can share some time saving ideas or expertise with me? I've got a week or two until my next fishing trip, and as mechanically inclined as I am, I just might have it up and running by then.
Any hints or helping hands would be greatly appreciated.

Ahab, your going to like that garmin 162 I have found that the Hotspots maps are accurate on most waters the one thing that I did not like is on Sabaskong Bay the Islands are not Darkened so it's hard to tell the difference between the Island outline and a countour line Garmin tells me this will be updated and fixed on the next Hotspots update.

As far as installation goes it's pretty straight forward just make sure you mount your antenna in a location where it won't be obstructed from a full exposure to the sky, I have mine mounted as far up on the Bow as I could get it and still be clear of the trolling motor.

Do yourself a huge favor and buy a R.A.M. mount for it. They swivel and give you any viewing angle possible. I believe you can get on the the 162 for about $30.00 at your local Gander Mtn.

I don't believe that the 162 comes with an external detachable antenna, so just be sure you mount your 162 in a wide open area. GPS is based on "Line-of-Sight" reception, so mounting inside a boat cabin probally isnt the best.

Got the Ram mount when I bought the unit. Have a spot all picked out for mounting and could see the obvious good points of the moveable mount.
Guess I'm trying to cover my bases before the game even starts.
The Cap'n thanks ye.
